Established in the Thrissur district, Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple is one of the most significant and sacred pilgrim hubs of Kerala. Easily accessible by road and rail, the idol worshipped here is more than 5000 years old. The presiding deity is MahaVishnu, in standing posture with four hands bearing Sankhu, Sudarshana chakram, lotus and mace. He is worshiped as Balakrishna, the full avatar of Mahavishnu. The idol is made of an uncommon stone known as Patala Anjana.
