Crocodile Ghat

The "Muthala Kadavu," or Crocodile Ghat, is one of the must visit destinatiuons of Kerala. Associated with Sri Adi Shankara, it is believed to be a place where he turned to Sanyasam (Ascetic life). It is situated in Kalady where the famous legend Sree Sankara Acharya was caught by the crocodile in the lake. That place is called as crocodile Ghat. From the childhood Sree Sankara Acharya desire was to become a saint but his mother denied his desire. One day when he went to take a bath in this river a crocodile apprehended his feet and deny to leave him until her mother gave permission for his desire. After that she was forced to accept his desire and then crocodile left him. This spot is very well called as crocodile Ghat. This river is situated on the bank of the river Periyar.
