Ettumanoor Mahadevar Temple

The Ettumanoor Mahadevar Temple is among the most visited places of worships and pilgrimage in Kerala and it attracts devotees not only from India but also from abroad. Aghora Moorthy is the presiding diety of the temple. Many Vedic names are affiliated with this temple and it is believed that the Pandavas, Sage Vyasa and belief Shri Adi Shankaracharya, a devotee of Lord Shiva created his Soundarya Lahari here. The imposing major entrance of this temple is the Western Gopuram which richly decorated with other ones. Inside the Temple a glittering golden Holy Mast (Kodimararn) is mounted on an elevated rectangular stage that welcomes the devotees, where the idols of the eight Guardians-Gods ‘‘Ashthadik Palakas” are established. A subshrine is situated on the northern side of inner chamber dedicated to Lord Ayyappa.
