Karumadikkuttan Buddha Statue

Karumadikkuttan is the nickname of a Buddha statue found in Karumady near Alappuzha in Kerala. This statue constructed in black granite in a seated position days back to the period between 9th to 14th centuries. It is on the banks of the lake Punnamada in Alleppey. Devotees arrive to worship the figurine and the location is called Karumadikuttan temple. This is the only Buddhist temple in Kerala and the only remnant proving the existence of Buddhism in Kerala in the very old times. Going through the history of Kerala, one can find that Buddhism flourished in Kerala throughout the reign of the Vikramaditya Varaguna.
