Kulathupuzha Dharmasastha Temple

Situated on a forest range on the Thiruvananthapuram – Shenkottai route, Kulathupuzha is renowned for the Sastha temple. The Vishu Mahotsavam in April or May month is the most significant event in thi spart of Kerala. The Shasta Temple at Kulathupuzha is very ancient. The idol at Kulathupuzha is called ‘Manikandan’. It is belived that the temple was built by the Raja of Pandalam. Feeding to the fishes in the nearby stream is an important ‘vazhipadu’ in the Temple.

Kulathupuzha Temple History

The deity is popularly mentioned as Dharma Shasta. There are two main deities in this temple – Lord Shiva and Shasta. Shiva is in the pattern of Shiva Linga and that of Shasta or Ayyappa is a stone image. The shrine also hosts an elaborately carved idol of Lord Vishnu. There are furthermore shrines of Ganesha and Devi in the compound.
