Odathil Palli Mosque in Thalassery

Odathil Mosque is established in the heart of Thalassery, Kannur District of Kerala. Odathil Mosque is about 200 years old mosque built by an Arab merchant in typical Hindu Temple method with teak timber. The mosque was built in the year 1806 by Moosakaka a contractor of the East India Company. The top covering of the mosque is made up with copper and has no domes and minarets. The wood utilized in the central is attractively carved. The architecture of the mosque is noteworthy since it is built in the customary Kerala style. The golden dome of the mosque with its copper plate roofs adds to the architectural beauty of the construction. The dome of the mosque is a big structure visible from miles away.

History of Odathil Palli Mosque

The location on which Odathil Palli is situated now was one time a sugarcane flower bed of the Dutch. The name of the mosque if drawn from from two words: the Dutch word ‘odam’ which means flower bed and the Malayalam phrase ‘palli’ meaning mosque.
