Palayam Juma Mosque

The Masjid-i Jahan-Numa, also known as the Palayam Pally of Trivandrum, is the primary mosque of Trivandrum in Kerala. It is a Juma Masjid or Friday Mosque. Moulavi Jamaludheen Mankada is the present Imam of the Mosque.

History of Palayam Juma Mosque

The Juma Masjid, Palayam Mosque is the most significant mosque in Thiruvananthapuram, located at Palayam, the mosque has a temple and a Christian church as its neighbors, establishing the communal harmony of Keralites. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha adjacent to the mosque and a church across the street. This place displays the communal harmony between the peoples of the locality.

Palayam Mosque at Trivandrum dates back to 1813 A.D when Britishers were stationed here. A little mosque was assembled with a small location to offer a plea. Slowly the mosque was reconstructed by the agents and people there. In 1960 businessmen and government officials took up its renovation and constructed the mosque that stand today.
