Sabarimala in Kerala

Sabarimala Temple which is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa is one of the most holy pilgrimage center in India. Located in the Western Ghats is open only during the first six days of every Malayalam month, days of Mandalapooja, Makaravilakku and Vishu. It is the most visited and largest pilgrimage centers around the world. The temple is open to males of all age groups and to women who have either passed their fertility age and those before coming to the stage of puberty. The easiest path is through Chalakkayam, by which one can come to the banks of the river Pamba by vehicle. Pamba in Kerala is the main halting place on the way to Sabarimala. From here one has to trek 4 to 5 kms to come to the temple.
