St. George's Forane Church, Edappally

St.George's Forane Church has a glorious history dating back to 14 centuries. Edappally was then a little hamlet, a part of the generous kingdom of Elangalloor. The persons of Edappally lived a simple life, the luxuries of life being non-existent at that time. The church member congregation at Edappally was rather small and they were all descendants of the Hindus altered into Christianity by St.Thomas the Apostle who came to India to preach the Gospel.

Edappally Church Attractions

Edappally church in Kerala was constructed about 300 years after the martyrdom of St.George. It was initially constructed in the name of the Virgin Mary. St.George was born in A.D.269 at Cappadochia in Asia Minor. He assisted as a fighter in the royal cavalry. He was an ardent and firm believer in Christ and lived his life factual to the Scriptures. Throughout the devout persecution of Emperor Diocletus, he stood up for the faith and was put to death. From that time, the fighter became St.George and thousands of churches sprang up all over Europe and components of the East in the name of St.George. He was formally identified as the Patron Saint of England.
