St.Thomas Jacobite Syrian Cathedral, Mulanthuruthy

Mulanthuruthy Marthoman Church is one among the ancient and famous churches of Syrian Christians. It is located at Mulanthuruthy close to Kanjiramattom in Ernakulam district of Kerala. The church is known for its historical significance. This church is also known as the Indian Orthodox Church. A lot of devotees from different parts of the globe are attracted to this church every year. Spiritual and religious tourists are attracted to the murals and the tombs of different bishops.

This church is the home parish of a Syrian Orthodox religious leader, Saint Gheevarghese Mar Gregorios who was later canonized by both the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church and Indian Orthodox Church. Also, this is the home parish of the lone saint of the Malankara Church, Metropolitan Kochuparambil Paulose Mor Koorilose who were the bishops of the Malankara Church popularly called as Kattumangattu Bavamar. The church’s altar is a reminiscent of the Altar of the first Christian Church of the Syrian Orthodox Church at Jerusalem. This church is called as the second Jerusalem because of this reason.
